PowerCon was founded on supplying power conversion solutions to the wind turbine industry, serving multinationals like Vestas and Siemens Gamesa as well as international companies like KK Wind Solutions, who we continue to have long-standing business relationships with to this day. Although shore power has become our main business focus, the wind segment continues to be the origin and core of PowerCon’s capabilities. This includes the development of customer-specific test equipment such as test benches and other test equipment. Besides customized test equipment, our solutions for the wind turbine industry can largely be divided into two categories:

Active front end converters: Low voltage converter for parallel connection designed for applications with high current and low voltage.

Modular multi-level converters: Medium voltage converter for series connection designed for applications with low current and high voltage.

These solutions have been used for various purposes, including generator test equipment, production test benches, complete converters and converter controllers, and upgrading electrical drive trains in existing wind turbines. On the other hand, our test equipment is often used for mass-production lines of generators and converters for high quality assurance. Our test equipment can also be used for verification purposes or production burn-in tests to ensure reliability and robustness of the tested end-products as they often go into the harsh environments for offshore wind turbines.

No matter the specific application, higher efficiency is always in focus as it means improved business for our customers. Whether minimizing losses, or improving performance levels, PowerCon knows that a little goes a long way.
